Pre-K Fives

Goal: To prepare students for kindergarten by fostering both independence and a love of learning through cross curriculum lessons that include literature, beginning reading, math science, social studies and cooking.

Weekly themes are presented in each class to give your child opportunities to explore in the following areas:

Gross and Fine Motor Skills: to develop good pencil grip and penmanship, and the ability to excel physically.

Literature: including phonics and print awareness, word families and sight words

Math: including addition, subtraction, monetary values and word problems

Christian Growth: including Bible memory verses, prayer log and the Lord’s Prayer. Chapel is attended weekly

Scientific experimentation, Art, Cooking, Dramatic play, Games, and Songs – to enhance themes and learning

Themes may include: pets, Pilgrims, Native Americans, transportation, pond life, healthy living, Christmas, snow, different countries, space, dinosaurs and presidents.

Field trips and “in school” events are planned throughout the year and in years past have included:

Grocery store, Fire Station, “Trip around the World”, Mission Projects, Farmer’s Market, Urban Farmers Program at Children’s Museum, Pizzeria, Strawberry Farm,

Free play times offer access to blocks and other building materials, home living and dress up, vehicles, puzzles, books and time for one on one help.

Outside time provided daily on an age-appropriate playground area, weather permitting.

*Spanish, Music, and Creative Movement classes are attended monthly.

*Parents provide a light morning snack and lunch.
