Pre-K Fours

Goal: To begin socially and academically preparing for Kindergarten, in a fun, loving and Christian environment.

Weekly themes are presented in each class to give your child opportunities to explore in the following areas:

Phonological and phonemic awareness – including letter/sound recognition, left to right progression and speech to written word.

Scientific discovery and experimentation

Literature for enjoyment as well as learning information, recall, analyzing

Math readiness – including one to one correspondence, classifying and sorting, patterning, simple addition and subtraction

Spiritual Growth – including bible memory verses, stories and learning to pray. Chapel is attended weekly.

Social skills and character education

Pre-writing and writing skills

Music, cooking and games – to enhance themes and learning

Themes may include: Apples, Pumpkins, Fall, Community Helpers, Space, Christmas, MultiCultural Week, Families, Hibernation, Healthy Habits and Nursery Rhymes.

Theme art projects will be process and product oriented. A variety of media and techniques are explored throughout the year to nurture imagination and promote skills, such as cutting, fine motor skills and following directions. Projects are used to promote creativity and pride in work.

Field trips and “in school” events are planned throughout the year and in years past have included:

Farm field trip, Pancake and Pajama day, Heath Center trip, Animal Encounter, Strawberry farm trip, “Trip around the World”, Library trip, Mission project

Free play times offer access to blocks and other building materials, home living and dress up, vehicles, puzzles, books and educational computer games.

Outside time provided daily on an age-appropriate playground area, weather permitting.

*Spanish, Music, and Creative Movement classes are attended monthly.

*Parents provide a light morning snack and lunch.
